I have the light and heavy duty JB’s. Sometimes I don’t have anything up top and sometimes I have a kayak, a solar panel and a basket on the Yakima rack. Being able to switch struts is great advantage. I’ve only had the JB's installed for a week but I’ve tried both sets with all the load variations and they work great.

My girlfriend is short and light and if she had to lower the top with stronger struts she would end up dangling from the bar with no effect! I’ve heard past light weight posters mention this problem. So mine don’t immediately raise or lower but I can easily raise or lower the top with minimal effort. It also stays at whatever position I want while I pull in the tent or arrange things. Nice not to have to settle it on my head like the old days.
