Ok, the same question asked in every diagnosis: does the starter motor turn
the engine over? I would assume yes, since you said once it ran rough for
15sec then cleared up, but later you say click/hum, indicating no-crank
condition..

Well, Sheridan, WY actually. This is the same problem I had posted about
previously about her just not starting and then a day later it started and
acted like nothing happened. Driving today from Keystone, SD making my way
home. Make a not so quick detour to Devils Tower on a hot day and notice
there is the hesitation before starting. I stop, park her in the shade and
have lunch.

Well, good news, bad news, and maybe worse. When I tried after lunch, it
started up ok, but the engine ran very rough for maybe 15 sec. After that,
fine. Drove on for a while and stopped at a rest stop (kids and their potty
breaks.) would not start after that. Feeling it was tied to heat, I let it
rest 10 min, not long enough I know. Turned the key, and it started to turn,
but making a godawful sound. The best comparison is if you turned the
ignition after the engine is already running, but enough that I felt it
under my foot. It did actually start and I went on 60 miles to the first
sign of civilization. Note: the coolant temp Gauge never went too high, but
the light was blinking the whole way. Stopped at a hotel, it won't start
again, made that sound again but would not start. Waiting for nightfall
before trying again. Tried again 4 hrs later at night, nothing. A click and
faint hum, that is all.

Any urgent suggestions? I need to make it back to Seattle by Saturday,
Sunday latest.
