Dennis, here is what I do, have the new sensor with the new o-ring on it
and ready to install. Unplug the old sensor and remove the clip that holds
it in place. Pull out the old sensor and as quickly as you can install the
new one. Look at the old sensor to make sure that the old o-ring came out
with it, if not pull the new one out and quickly fish out the old o-ring
then put the new one back in. Even if you go slow you are only going to
lose a few tablespoons of coolant. Have a small catch pan under the area
if you are in your garage or somewhere you care about leaving a mess.
Pretty easy. Leave the pressure cap on the tank and that will help keep
the coolant leak down to a trickle. If you have the cap off, the coolant
will come out with more force. Also be sure to do it when the van is stone
cold.
