I have a tencentlife external oil cooler on a 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Campmobile with original 2.1, manual transmission, 179K miles. Before the oil cooler, I had to let it rest when I drove at highway speeds and temperatures were at upper 90s or higher, to keep it from dropping oil pressure when I slowed to exit a freeway or similar (rpms below 2000, pressure would drop to 10-15 psi, idle would go below 5 psi and sometimes oil light would illuminate. I don't have an oil temperature gauge. After the external cooler, pressure still varies with speed, rpms, ambient temperature, and duration of driving at speed, but has never been below reasonable. I suppose I should get an oil temperature gauge. mcneely ---- Robert Clemmer <n51219@COMCAST.NET> wrote: > I have a 91 2.1 WBX that just turned 300K miles on this past trip to FL. > The oil pressure is fine until the oil temperatures start to go on the north > side of 220 then it starts dropping proportionately with oil temperature. > Oil temperature starts climbing proportionately with outside air temperature > when the temperatures are above 85.
