Subject:Re: 2.1L WBX high pressure oil switch - removal

What about cutting down a spark plug socket, if you can find one in the right size? Most have six flats on the drive end, in addition to the four-sided recess for a ratchet or breaker bar. If you could cut this socket short enough to fit into the available space you could turn it with an open end wrench or Crescent or a ViseGrip. Good luck!

At the risk of marring a socket, what about vice grips on the outside?

John,
Some times you have to make a "special tool". If you were to shorten
the deep socket by cutting some of it off, would it then be usable? I
don't think I had to go to such lengths when I did this job, but it was a
long time ago. It seems to me that I used a standard depth socket, but did
not put it all the way onto the sensor. Then by putting the rachet only
part way into the socket, everything just barely worked.
Cutting a socket, of course is not easy. Using a dremel takes a long
time and many disks. A larger tool with abrasive disk is faster, but you
want to go slow to avoid heating the socket too much and softening the
steel. I recall cutting down a socket to get the crank pulley bolt off a
SAAB 900. Its engine is in there backwards with the crank pulley tight
against the firewall. What fun.
