I think his concern if not fitting to a Vanagon, but among the vehicles he mentioned.  Passat wheels have been 112mm BCD for years and Golf and Jetta different from that until recently, but I do not know which models changed in which years.  I know the newest Beetle is now 112.  Good luck!
