Since the GoWesty starter does not require any modifications of the bell housing or engine if it was to fail, what is to stop you from buying the standard or TDI replacement at the FLAPS and installing it?

I know that most here already know this stuff but I found the GW starter article enlightening

http://www.gowesty.com/tech-article-details.php?id=141

I'd gotten the starter rebuilt on my '88 using 2 cores I supplied.
It's had a flat spot since install. This is exacerbated by heat.
Even after installing a new starter bushing in clutch housing, issue is still present.
The issue may well be the large long wire from battery to starter B+ post (there is visible corrosion) but I really have to question the rebuild quality and moreover, the quality of cores provided.

This looks like a useful video (youtube: Bosch 110 starter rebuild)

I too would be of the Mullendore adaptor + new TDI install camp as I wouldn't be tied to one manufacture.

Neil.
