Eric,
I would not bother with this, big brakes front and rear are a safety upgrade when you put in a Subaru 2.5 (or bigger) engine and drive like a maniac intoxicated will all the power. Advice I've gotten from VW transmission pros is to not put a Subie 2.5 in a Westy with an automatic, but stick with the 2.2.
Like David said, if you want some improvement, you could put bigger brakes on the front, but that still requires bigger wheels.
Properly installed and maintained Vanagon brakes work just fine with the stock powertrain setup.

Hi folks,
I just read in the Go Westy sales email that they are working on a rear disc break.
for the vanagon,Would rear disc breaks improve breaking noticeably? I’ve always heard the most braking is in the front?
As I don’t plan to upgrade wheels from my 14 inch soon, Assuming these fit with my wheels might this be a worthwhile safety upgrade?
