Good lifters filled with oil will not compress quickly. After adjustment you have to wait sometime and them they will final adjust after the engine starts. The air cooled engines not only burn valves but they can have the valve seats come loose. Hi to all, This is an air-cooled engine, 2 liter, 1982 model. I seem to have a problem with my lifters not getting compressed. I can’t tell why. I can think of the oil pressure to be too high. Took the ‘oil pressure relief valve’ out and can’t find anything wrong. Had to use the lifters without any turn on it. Now the engine is out because I think I have burnt valves. Any of you had such a problem before? What could be amiss? Best regards to all, Zoltan
