Hi B and B,
We did southern Utah by westfalia vanagon last September. it's
UNFORGETTABLE.

It was still hot that week after labor day. So we concentrated on getting a
swim in everyday.

We stealth-camped every night all the way across the USA. In the western
states it's easy. No hassles anywhere.

The exception to our *wild camping* was a place I highly recommend - a
campground at Hovenweep national Monument. It's an Anasazi settlement
(defended canyon.) A very cute small campground (30 spots). We were able to
roll right up and stay the night.

You could easily spend two days at Hovenweep. Exploring and hiking the
canyon. And there are petroglyphs to hike to.

Mesa Verde is the he, famous Anasazi cliff dwelling, but many say it's
over-hyped, too many people... no dogs allowed.

East of Zion national park we were rolling east along a two lane road, sun
going down and getting hungry. So we just turned off the road and went a
few thousand yards up a dirt road, found cover from some mesquite trees,
and set up the van. We had a dinner of spicy sausages, lentils, and Trader
Joes nan-bread. It was so good.

There's something incredibly satisfying about stealth camping. Freedom. I'm
told it's legal to camp anywhere in Arizona that is not marked illegal to
camp.

Monument Valley is amazing. Shoot as much video and stills as you can. We
used a lot of footage in a music video my girlfriend produced a few months
later. I'm going back to Utah as soon as I can. Great place.
