Considering the shifting probems: (1) the transmission is freshly overhauled (2) a new clutch and throwout bearing was installed. (3) all external wear-type shift components were replaced a few years ago from front to rear. Perhaps it's time again and they can be adjusted properly then. No other components replaced. I did not get to see this installation myself, which I usually do, but the work was done by an old time VW mechanic who now works on nothing but older Volkswagens, primarily Beetles, aircooled buses, and Vanagons. I can only assume he did it right until proven otherwise. But, he had no instructions to replace any external shifter components.
