Subject:Re: Strange vacuum leaks 1.9

True, the 1.9 uses a shorter crank pulley mounting bolt ( than the 2.1's
) and does not use a washer.

sounds to me like it's crankcase pressure that's emitting smoke,
as those areas are not under vacuum of course..
but pressurized from the crankcase.

I'd think a sharp tech would realize that.
And where did he introduce his smoke ?
or what is he smoking ? lol.

I have found up to 10 tiny leaks in the plenum, intake runners, and
throttle body area.
Very common actually.
I find mine with a Listening Hose ..a hose held to the ear and just
'listen around.'
You hear a hiss ...or any sound ..that's a leak.

I also believe in the 'spray carb cleaner' method ..any change in idle
speed or quality ..there's a leak at that spot.

I have never tried the propane method ...just aim a small jet of propane
( like from an unlit propane torch ) ...I should one of these days though.

the listening method works quite well.
