The biggest difference is the speed the cable operates at. On the Vanagon the cable is driven directly off the tire so the cable is turned at the speed of the tire. On all the front drive VW's and vanagon Syncros the cable is driven off a gear set driven by the final drive. Usually it is some great ratio greater than actual wheel speed. On the Syncro is almost double. I don't recall the ratios for the other VW. There is a number at the bottom of the speedometer face indicates the revolutions per mile or kilometer. The trip meter is still running fine. The three rightmost digits have recessed back into the odometer body, so I suspect the shaft has slid out of the gear. I dislike taking that brittle plastic apart, but it is time to fix the odometer. In the event I get in there and it is more serious than just the shaft sliding out of place, what are the differences between the Jetta/Golf MKI or MKII odometer and the one from the T25? From the front, they look identical. I have an old MkI speedometer/odometer and wanted to know if I can raid it for parts (speedometer needle is broken or I would try swapping it in). Roy
