Battery vent/drain tubes. VW campers were considered RVs in the USA. By law RVs had to have a sealed battery compartment (from the occupants). All, As part of the ground renewal underway, I pulled the battery from under the passenger seat this evening (talk about a tight fit). There are two holes in the front wall of batter compartment: - One in the upper left corner (by the positive post) which is about 1 1/4 in diameter. There is a short piece cardboard flex line on this opening which terminates under the vehicle inside of the passenger wheel well. I presume this is intended to vent the batter box. - There is a second hold of approximately the same diameter in the lower right-hand corner (next to where the battery ground cable bolts to the chassis. This hole looks like there may have been a cover or flange fitted to it at one point as there are 3 - 4 rivet holes which look like they held something in-place over (or in) the hole. The other side of this hole is in the fender well. What is the intended purpose of this hole? The overflow/blowoff tube from the battery was hanging out of this hole, but I would like to re-route it out the the first hole (in the upper left corner) and block this hole off as it allows water and road debris into the battery compartment.
