It was my square pre-filter.  I'd had a few short episodes of missing, now
I recall usually following a  downhill.   I took out that filter and
replaced the little fitting to the larger pump hose....Quiet and smooth
again...the rain and the missing beginning simultaneously?   Coincidentally?
