Subject:Tintop AC Tunnel

I'm on digest mode so I'm a little behind. I have an 87 tintop and one cold
morning about two years ago the whole thing came down on me. Luckily, I was
backing out of my parking space at work so it was scary but not disasterous.
I called the nearest VW dealer in Birmingham AL and gave them my vin and
they told me there was nothing they could do. I don't know why I called
them, since they would not even allow me to pull my vanagon into their
garage a few years ago when I had a far more simple problem. Yep I had to
fix myself at a total cost of less than $20. They said they had no one that
could work on it and they could not get parts. I made several calls (to VW
dealers) with same results. I found a repair kit online and ordered it and
it remains in the box. Upon inspection, it appears (to me) that the plate
was installed already. The plastic part of the duct broke even with the
edge of the plate, so I am going to have to fabricated a solution.
Currently the parts are in the back of the van. My AC is not working so I
haven't bothered to put it all back together. I am not sure where it is but
if John needs the repair kit I will see if I can locate the one I bought.
