Folks should probably not be stripping parts out of their VW diesels before taking them back to the dealer. The issue has already been taken to court and the judge, unsurprisingly, ruled against the practice: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2016/12/22/volkswagen-group-3-liter-diesel-scandal-settlement-substantial/95711452/ <http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2016/12/22/volkswagen-group-3-liter-diesel-scandal-settlement-substantial/95711452/> Also: it’s not true, as someone in this thread reported, that VW is “getting out of the diesel business”. They’ve had to scale back but they intend to import diesels for at least the 2017-2019 model years, according to this: http://autoweek.com/article/vw-diesel-scandal/vw-will-slowly-back-away-diesels <http://autoweek.com/article/vw-diesel-scandal/vw-will-slowly-back-away-diesels> Fahrvergnügen, y’all!
