KEP (Kennedy Engineered Products, maker of the original Subaru-to-VW adapter plate among many other things) also sells a gear reduction starter which uses a brand-new Nippondenso motor. Around $250 with shipping, easy to install, very happy with it. KEP makes good stuff. Steve Edwards, in Chicago with a 1991 tintop.
