It may be worth the effort to buy a pair of tubing benders. I have a handtool designed for three sizes of tubing. Don't recall how much it cost but I doubt it was more than $30. What you need is known as "refrigeration" copper tubing, which is gas rated. This is not the same as "refrigerator" water copper tubing for ice makers! Very confusing: http://www.homedepot.com/p/3-8-in-O-D-x-20-ft-Copper-Soft-Refrigeration-Coil-Pipe-D-06020PS/202287075 It's also available in 10' lengths. It's soft, and you can use a spring type tubing bender with it: http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-Tube-Bending-Spring-Set-HDX073/204218597 or a hand held plier type: http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-Tube-Bending-Tool-HDX074/204218599 You also need a flaring tool: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-2-Piece-45-Degree-Flaring-Tool-Set-80-528-111/300412627 If you use a spring bender, flare after you bend it or it will be a single use tool. ;-0 HF probably has these tools for less. And don't forget the dishwashing detergent solution for leak testing. I prefer Dawn, lots of long lasting bubbles you can't miss! I bought a new propane tank for my vanagon and the instruction said that its unlikely that I have to cut the pipe. Well, turns out that I kink the pipe trying to adjust it to the new tank ! :-[ Any way , as a stupid person paying my craving DIY mistakes , I need to rebuild the propane 3/8" copper tubing . I know its type K for sure but I don't know if the original tubing is soft or hard ? To me , it is hard but online search said that you can't bend hard copper . Is that the case ? What if I use a tubing bender on hard tubing. Should I buy soft tubing ? Any input (of expert ) will be appreciate. Thanks Chris
