Your FLAPS should carry Pitmann arm pullers. IIRC, one of these will
work to remove the CV hub from drive shaft. IOW, one could disassemble
the joint while its still attached then use the puller to remove the
hub. These pullers have several other uses for the Vanagon and should
be reasonably affordable.
