if the hummm is there in neutral then it's not the trans...

better yet... try this on an empty road.. do it safely...

drive till you hear the humm... put it on neutral... listen... shut off the
engine and turn the key back on one notch so you won't lock the steering
wheel... now listen again...

with no radio and/or talkative people around you of course...
