I used to drive my '84 4-sp Westy all over New England at 85 actual, which
is ~4650 rpm.  It wore the engine out earlier than otherwise, but it would
do it all day without complaint.  It used to creep up to 90 sometimes when
I wasn't looking.

I don't drive that fast any more.  I drive the '89 auto at 70 or a bit
above if I'm in a hurry, otherwise 60-65 for mileage.
