My 84 Joker went through about 4 fuel pumps in short order, including one stall at speed on the freeway going downhill. Similar in that the van was driving fine each time, and then suddenly it wasn’t. I took it into the shop the last couple times, asking them to look for something that might be causing the problem. The mechanic filed something down on the replacement fuel pump that he thought might be causing it. No problem in the several years since then. If this sound plausible, and you want to know exactly what he did, I can probably find out. Many people had also suggested the summer ethanol fuel blend was the culprit.
