I was pulling my gearbox on Sunday for a rebuilt so I had a chance to inspect the exhaust. One of the toilet bowl clips is missing as is one exhaust manifold stud. I replaced studs and used brass nuts previously. I would recommend using flex pipe sections even with the toilet bowl to keep things from buzzing off. At this point, I will keep things simple by using the RV 1.8 exhaust manifold that came with the engine/diesel parts I bought. A person on the samba (Bill) swore by his "toilet bowl" exhaust set up and said the exhaust never had any cracks. Having built at least 3 different versions of exhaust for my 15º swap, I'll gladly sacrifice a few HP for exhaust longevity. ....... I hope! >> >>> On Sat, Oct 14, 2017 at 7:30 AM, Chris S <szpejankowski@gmail.com> wrote: >>> >>> I have the dual flex joint and was going to use it. Look into AEG exhaust manifold. With minor clearancing it mounts to a 1.8 head. I had a collector made by Maik Jankord. Using 2.5 inch pipe with two flex joints. I will install it this fall. It beats the standard toilet bowl collector I currently have. >>> >> >>> >> Pic of collector: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/836852.jpg >>> >> >> >> >> >> -- >> Neil n >> >> Blog: Vanagons, Westfalia, general >> >> 1988 Westy Images >> >> 1981 Westfalia "Jaco" Images, technical >> >> Vanagon-Bus VAG Gas Engine Swap Group
