I do remember back in the day (*sound of bones creaking*) that typing
one's response /above/ the included text was considered to be close to
an act of illiteracy.

In my (HTML only) gmail screen there is a check-box which, by default
is checked, to include that included text, but putting the cursor
/after/ it seems never to have been an option.
