I had an '82 diesel that I purchased new in March 1982.  Yes, it was slow when
going up hills in 3rd gear.  If I had access to the expertise that is on this
list, I would probably still have it.
Right now I am looking for a stick-shift Vanagon (no Campers, etc.; no
automatics).  John in Macon, GA.
