I've used these for 9 years:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002M792S/ref=oss_productI've been real happy with them.  I bent the mounting tabs back at 90 degrees, and installed with 5 minute epoxy around the rim as I recall.  Retains use of stock grills and stock window cranks.

Mike, those Crutchfield speakers will give you the same problems with the window cranks.  Look at the picture, I think the 5th from left, that shows the side profile.  I don’t think there is a speaker that mounts flush with the door panel like the original front door speakers.  It “fits” the hole but it sticks out and you will be looking for angled door cranks to clear.  I put in some Pioneers years ago and I love having sound but part of the project is changing window cranks.

Great thank you. I had forgotten Crutchfield. They're kind of like the Tire Rack of electronics

Crutchfield has a good replacement for old stock Vanagon speakers, except
it sounds much better. I believe these Jensen Dubs are what I installed
(they fit the front doors, according to the Crutchfield site, and I had no
problem with putting twine the Westy rear cabinet).
