        Sounds like maybe You have never driven a Vanagon that was powered by an EJ22 or EJ25 that has been

properly installed & tuned by someone that knows what they are doing ~

        & "never shifted out of 4th on most hills " sounds to Me like a Lazy Driver that either is not aware of or just

doesn't Care about the Abuse he is bestowing upon his engine ~
