I have a 91 2.1 automatic and after 25 years and 300K miles the starter would occasionally take a break and need gentle taps with a hammer to persuade it to work. I elected to go with a new gear driven starter from VC. It is working flawlessly. However, if I were to do it again, I'd go with an adaptor and the high torque diesel starter simply because it is available nearly everywhere. If my automatic starter decides to take a break in Hellpeckersville, USA you are simply SOL with an automatic. Bob C >I’m using Karls starter adaptor with the starter he recommended but the GW starter might be a better choice for someone else. FWIW, and anyone else who probably never heard what spawned the original prototype 'MoreTorque' starter adaptor: Three failed GW / IMI 'HiTorque' starters in 50,000 miles on a customers van. YMMV. 12 years later and 1300 adaptors sold. :8
