Heh. A couple of months ago I was driving down the highway, when the engine backfired fiercely (Subaru SVX engine in this case). I put it in neutral and it died. While rolling, I tried to start it, but not a whimper. When I rolled to a stop on the shoulder I opened up the engine compartment….saw a wire disconnected from the starter. Reconnected it, started right now. I figure the backfire caused the wire to come off (no things weren’t really happy still, but that’s a whole different story.) Being able to get the engine started meant I could limp it over to a shop to look at more thoroughly.

Anyway, look for anything wrong, nothing. So thinking just a case of maybe solenoid sticking or excessive voltage drop. So get tool box. Piece of wire. This is a GoWesty starter so there is an unused terminal on the solenoid harness. So make jumper and connect from terminal back of alternator to solenoid. It cranks. Go back up front, turn on ignition, go back, use jumper to start and on my way.
