I saw it as part of a "probe failure report"
Larry A.
here it is:
Yesterday, we here at www.frankcondelli.com =
<http://www.frankcondelli.com/> ran into a new problem that we have =
never seen before. Replacing a starter on a Syncro and the starter was =
in the way of putting back the vacuum actuator for the diff lock. Got =
another starter out of stock and it worked. The first starter we took =
off the self was 1/2=E2=80=99 longer than the second one. Both were =
Bosch, std. tranny, from 1982, 025 911 023A, SR 401X starters from the =
same supplier that I have been getting them for years. First time we =
ever see this problem. The black casing portion of the starter must be =
4=E2=80=9D long not 4-1/2" for it to work in the Syncro. Check your =
starters before installing and then becoming bewildered !
Cheers, =20
