Subject:Re: Life of spare tire in clamshell---Lug Wrench!

I use a 6 point socket that fits the lug nuts of the car, it's
attached to a breaker bar and each vehicle I have has one with it for
changing the tires. On more than one occasion I have gently bounced on
the end of the bar and eventually loosened the nut.

Sidenote: for those of you with GoWesty alloys, I called them a while back and asked about correct torque for nuts & bolts. They said 95 FT-LBS which is significantly less than the torque for stock Vanagon steel wheels, which I think is something like 133 FT-LBS. On the side of the road, I estimate as best I can with body weight and lever length, and then get it properly re-torqued once in town.
