In retrospect installing the rear discs probably would have been the way to go. I got to this point a step at a time over six months, trying to incrementally improve on what I had rather than a complete conversion. I ground about a 1/16" off the drums and the grinding noise is gone. The brakes work OK but the pedal is still softer than I like. I am going to try driving and working the self-adjustor. I also re-bled the brakes and no bubbles, so my next step is to look at the front brakes and keep adjusting the rears. In sum, where I ended up is the GoWesty heavy drums, stainless lines, flushed the brake lines, new shoes on the rear, same old pads on the front. New spring perch and bushings on the trailing arms. I think I should be able to lock the wheels on a panic stop, but cannot, so not done yet. Dave B Boise '85 Westy ________________________________
