I’m a devotee of Karl’s adapter as well. With a Subaru EJ25 engine my 91 Multivan was an iffy start until I installed the adapter and a tdi starter. I did a write up as well. www.weidefamily.net/vanagon Go to Suby Engine-3 > Stronger Starter Best, Brent > On Apr 23, 2021, at 11:23 AM, Richard Koerner <rjkinpb@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > > Right....minor roundtail file (was 3/4") on SR0408X starter motor flange to provide proper clearance for attachment with this bracket. Took me 15 minutes. Soft aluminum. And I didn't even have a vise on my workbench to help with this modification. Obviously, super happy, and strongly endorsed. Hey...your Vanagon needs to start each and every time, no compromises. > > On Friday, April 23, 2021, 9:57:55 AM PDT, Richard Koerner <rjkinpb@sbcglobal.net> wrote: > > And Karl, if your starter plate adapters were double the price, I'd still be a customer. On a Subie EJ22 motor, manual tranny. Nary a wimper. Ugh....that IDI Hi-Torque starter motor was a nightmare. Bump-start every morning from Missouri to San Diego, and a few times throughout the day too. Some Hillbillys at some gas station in the middle of nowhere...they pushed my Vanagon.....super friendly and helpful guys...and they gave me a thumbs up and I gave them a "mweep-mweep" from my horn as I drove off. > > On Thursday, April 22, 2021, 9:23:47 PM PDT, Karl Mullendore <tdiguru@westyventures.com> wrote: > > Yes, I still have the Multivan and the starter is still doing great!
