For good measure, I would also recommend a very thin film of Vaseline applied to electrical contacts on switch where it plugs in.  Rub it around with fingers to help remove funk, and also to prevent further funk.  Scott Foss was a big proponent of this trick; so am I.

I once recommended this procedure:  Take out Emergency Flasher switch.  Spray Contact cleaner into switch.  Actuate it like 25 times.  Spray another dose into switch.  Actuate another 25 times.  See what happens.  Zoltan (now back in Eastern Europe) did this...and it worked!  He promised me a beer as a Thank You.  Now...only need to get to Eastern Europe.

 What year is your van?

Believe it or not, the blinker indicator in the dash gets unfused power
and thus can light up even if the fused power to the flasher relay is bad.

If you are saying that the indicator comes on solid when you flip the
turn lever then that shows the lever switch is working.

Check your fuse!
