Just a few days ago, I wrote this reply to a similar report on The Samba: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9662017#9662017 TLDR: My '84 behaved like that in similarly high and hot conditions, apparently because of the fuel pump cavitation.
