Hi Vanagon Types I just installed the propex heater in my '85 Westy, and afterward took it to the local Suburban Propane and had a technician inspect and pressure test the entire system. I found a lot of conflicting information about checking propane tanks so that I would post this. Although my tank is now 12 years old, I learned that propane tanks that are installed in vehicles, like the Westy, do not have to be recertified. So, the technician checked the system for leaks but did not test the tank. I asked how would I know if the tank needs to be replaced, other than if it is leaking. The tech advised I should monitor corrosion and occasionally test for leaks and that is all. As my tank is 12 years old I was prepared for him to tell me to replace it, but the tank has minimal rust and no dents or other obvious signs of concern, so it seems ready to go for another 12 years.
