I did a complete rebuild on my 84 Westy, and very thankful I did! The toughest part was running new lines from the front condenser to the rear, but a local AC shop was a big help in fabrication. The whole project didn't take that much skill, just lots of time... new O-Rings, proper oil type at each holding point, and new 134a. Frankly, the system is ice cold and we love it!!! Heck, with Global Warming... you will be glad you have it. My 2 cents Project photos embedded in this link https://goo.gl/photos/LdeebCSgVcdLBhFq8 About 1/2 way down. I have read some comments that it is a drag on the engine, and I don't think I used it all last year. My question is whether it is worth removing, meaning would I see an appreciable gain in available power, or is removing it more trouble than it is worth so just leave it alone? Put another way, is it a meaningful drag even when the compressor is not engaged? Besides power, are there any other reasons to remove it? Thanks Dave B Boise '85 Westy
