hi Eric, I'd think your struts are too strong, installed by a much younger/stronger man :-) If you can't adjust them then you need different struts. I use this link to order specific struts (length and force). They custom make for you if they don't have them on the shelf. Once I ordered too strong struts they told me to send it back and they adjusted the force for free. I paid the send out shipping. The send back shipping is free too. https://www.gasspringsshop.com/ On Thu, May 5, 2022 at 11:28 AM Eric Caron <ericcaron96@comcast.net> wrote: > My 84 Westfalia has two sets of pop top struts so that the top works when > a roof box is loaded. > > I need to either disconnect two struts or somehow put them on a > much lower setting. > > At the moment I can’t close the roof I would simply hang from the bar! > > I was only able to open it by having someone put weight on the rack. > > The struts are different then the ones I installed on my 85. > > Thes bold directly into the roof metal at the bottom and directly through > the top of the pop top with two bolts and a metal bracket. > > Both ends seem the same and feel like the plastic part of the rear hatch > strut. > > So, Any tips on how to disconnect them or make them weaker?
