Eric,

Sounds like the beginning of a FlexPlate failure... I hope for your sake
that isn't the case.
Our friends had a similar issue with their 90 Westy, we made it 150 miles
out of town, before ka-boom!  We were behind it when it happened, in pouring
rain.

It wouldn't hurt to have a professional take a look.  If it has been doing
this for years, likely I'm way off!

Hi folks,

        Many auto trans vans make a sound I will describe as a chatter when
in drive and at a stop.  It goes away in park or once the van moves.  Not
all transmissions make this sound.

Anyone know what the sound is?
