Optical pick up isn't a good choice. It must be assumed that this pick
up will collect dust as well. I might be going bad with the time.

A better choice would be to use an magnetic pick up like those being
used for electrical BLDC motors. They are failure proofed even in harsh
environments.

Anyhow, the optical pick up is a nice idea with room for improvements.
