An of course, I thought of more to say after sending...
I, too, noticed that the vws ran cooler at a reasonable rate
on the level.  I also found the quickest way to cool them down
was to let them simply sit and idle for a couple of minutes.
Sort of like catching your breath after a long up hill pull 
to a scenic overlook.
