I've been sending simple instructions to a few people and recently realized
they were wrong.  The SET VANAGON command which worked under listproc is now

QUERY VANAGON

under LISTSERV.  Send this commdand to LISTSERV@GERRY.SDSC.EDU and NOT to the
vanagon list.

It will send back output like the following:
> query vanagon

Subscription options for Gerald Skerbitz <GSKER@LENTI.MED.UMN.EDU>, list
Vanagon:

MAIL           You are sent individual postings as they are received
FULLHDR        Full (normal) mail headers (formerly "FULLBSMTP")
REPRO          You receive a copy of your own postings
NOACK          No acknowledgement of successfully processed postings
