     My brother-in-law is an import-export agent for a major corporation.
     He has brought "everything" into the U.S.A. from bonsai trees to
     Boeing 747 full of auto parts.  I have asked him about bringing in a
     EV from Germany.  He says:

     "The German model will not pass the side impact standards as well as
     the safety glass will not pass U.S.A. standards."

     My brother-in-law is an avid VW'er.  He owns a Jetta as well as a
     Vanagon and knows the import/export business.

     If anyone knows if you can bring EV into the U.S.A. please let the
     list members know.
