There is starting to be.  More and more I'm starting to find alternate
sources other than Volkswagen.  Typically these are importers who are
simply bringing the actual German-made parts to the US themselves, thereby
bypassing Volkswagen of America's markup.  (In this particular case, my
price would be $38.50, versus around $55 from the dealer; part number 251
121 082.)
