It appears my heads may be leaking on my '87 Westy (80,000 miles), but I'm not sure . . . Suggestions please. Today at lunch, I noticed a small puddle of coolant under the Westy. A drip was hanging on the bottom of the engine and the coolant appeared to be coming from the ~1/4 " gasket wide on the side of the engine (I'm assumming this is the head gasket, Bentley and guesses lead me to this conclusion). Wiped it down, drove a few miles around town, no more coolant has appeared. Is this a sign of things to come? What should I check? Could the coolant be coming from elsewhere? Places to check? What are my options if I need new heads? Rebuild? Buy used? Buy new? Rebuild engine? New engine? Costs of various options? Thanks for assistance for the uninformed.
