Volks,
All Vanagons Sick! Need Help!
Our 87 GL has developed a clunk clunk on the right rear CV joint while
accelerating and decelerating.
Specific Questions for those who know:
1) Can I drive a while on that joint? The clunk is intermittent but
getting obviously less intermittent with time. First noticed it 4 wks
ago and been driven daily until now for clunk was so intermittent as
difficult to diagnose.
2) How hard a job are Vanagon CV joints/Boots? Any special tools
required?
3) Can I get by with just replacing
a) the bad joint (right rear, outer)($)
b) do only the right rear axle inner and outer or ($$)
c) do I need to do left and right axles, inners and outers/boots ($$$$)
Any feedback appreciated. My hope is I can get the CV joint(s) from
Kyle, let my wife drive only as necessary and do the job myself if it
requires no special tools.
All feedback greatly appreciated.
