Steven:  Brakes on my '82 GL been squeaking lately, too.  I assume
correctly or not that it's caused by granulated (and getting moreso) and
trapped grit from the brake shoes.  I got some new hubcaps, not VW,  a
while back which also might be contributing.  Cheers...
