Hello-
Is there anyway of getting at the oil pump cover bolts or the cover
itself without pulling the engine on a syncro?
background:
Well, after driving my van with its newly resealed heads back from
the shop at which I was doing the work on it, I found the heads are nicely
sealed. I also found that the oil leak I had thought I was fixing my replacing
the oil pressure switch (and which I am now going to have to re-replace after
getting the wrong switch, hmm, justice I suppose for replacing a perfectly
good part ;) ), was not the cause of the oil leak. That leaves the main
seal, the oil pump gasket and the self-sealing nuts on the oil pump cover
(as something on the rear of the engine is leaking and dripping down by the
drain plug)... The main seal I think is ok as the pulley is not cover in
oil, nor is anything above the pulley. That leaves two things which are totally
hidden (as far as I can tell) behind the motor mounts. All this because I
didn't notice the how much of an incline there when I checked the oil when
my lifters would quite down a year ago in Seattle - put too much oil in,
drove 5 miles and rechecked it to find the oil was about 1/4 over full mark.
I sure have learned a lot in the last year...
