My '90 has one, but I accidentally pulled it out when rebuilding my engine.
As far as I can tell, it is only used by VW for connection to their test
equipment,the leads don't connect to anythingin the van.  It should only be
a problem if you take your van to the dealer for tune-ups (does anybody on
this list still do that?).
